Software Developer

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team at the start of developing a brand new product. You will be based in our CodeBase office, part of a vibrant start-up community in the middle of Edinburgh.

Urban Tide was formed from members of the team that helped bid, plan & deliver the Innovate UK’s £24 million smart city demonstrator for Glasgow. The co-founders of Urban Tide led and worked as part of the OPEN Glasgow programme team that opened up the city's data and created engaging solutions for everyone.

We are looking to capitalise on this expertise and knowledge together with our strong partnerships to build a new data platform that delivers a vastly improved data management solutions for smart cities.  

REQUIRED:

  • Commercial experience operating and maintaining production software.

  • Demonstrated coding and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated best-practice software engineering including agile methodologies, unit testing, refactoring, code reviews, build and deployment processes.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

DESIRED:

  • Interest in building scalable systems (architecture, design patterns, reliability).

  • Server side JavaScript development (Node.js).

  • Single page web application development (Dojo/AngularJS/Ember.js/etc.).

BONUS:

  • Experience with big data storage (HBase/Cassandra).

  • Experience in containerised deployment (Docker).

  • Experience working with distributed computing platforms (Hadoop/Spark).

  • Experience in big data manipulation and analytics.

  • Experience handling spatial data.

PERSONAL QUALITIES:
