UWI WAS FOUNDED IN 2008 WHEN THEIR CEO AND INVENTOR OF THE UWI LABEL, PETE HIGGINS, COULDN’T TELL WHETHER A JAR OF MAYONNAISE HE’D FOUND IN HIS FRIDGE WAS SAFE TO GIVE TO HIS YOUNG SON. HE WONDERED HOW HE COULD CREATE A WARNING THAT WOULD SIGNAL DANGER WHEN THE CONTENTS OF A CONTAINER, ANY CONTAINER, WERE NO LONGER SAFE TO USE. THE CONCEPT OF THE ‘USE WITHIN’ LABEL WAS BORN.
The elegance and simplicity of the idea – a label that tells users how close to the critical point of degradation the contents of their container is – belies the science behind it.
It has attracted their Chairman, Douglas Cribbes, President and CEO of a respected a US aerospace and engineering company, and ther Chief Science Officer, Sergey Gordeyev, whose R&D experience in materials science and chemical engineering has helped bring the idea to technological reality.
