2014 Roundup

At the beginning of January we took the keys to the mothballed top floor of Argyle House.

After two months of graft we had something resembling a working space for 20 of Edinburgh’s most awesome early stage startups. By summer we had doubled in size, and we are now on our third floor with grand plans for next year.

We owe so much to the amazing community here who have been incredibly supportive throughout this rollercoaster of a year. Here’s a small sample of some of their achievements in 2014.

Administrate achieved the magic break-even point, raising £550k of growth capital.

Bubbal won Edinburgh Apps and was featured by Forbes as one of the lifestyle startups to watch on 2015.

CogBooks raised a further £1.75 ($2.8) million education technology investment.

The Neo UK management team completed a buy-out and rebrand, and are now operating as Cultivate.

All the new trainee surgeons in Scotland, Ireland and the Wessex Deanery in England are now using eoSurgical’s eoSim and InsTrac instrument tracking software.

Float won Xero’s 'emerging add-on of the year' award in Sydney.

Kotikan won both the 'Outstanding performance in business growth' award from ScotlandIS as well as the the 'Native Mobile App' category at the BIMA awards

Special shout out to Kotikan CEO Gavin Dutch for winning the Glenfiddich 'Spirit of Scotland' award as well!

Make It Social have been shortlisted for the 'Innovation in Travel Award' at the Globe Travel Awards 2015.

MakeWorks won the first Mini SeedCamp Edinburgh and went on to win the main SeedCamp Week London.

Outplay Entertainment raised $5 million in its recent round of funding, as well as being nominated for a Scottish Bafta for their game MONSTER LEGACY.

QikServe secured a further £800k in funding.

Speech Graphics provided the facial animation for one of this years triple A games, Shadow of Mordor.

Zonefox raised a funding round of £450k.

We've got an even more exciting year ahead of us in 2015!

We're still expanding rapidly, and by the middle of next year we'll have quadrupled in size from our original space. We'll be ramping up educational programmes, workshops, talks, gatherings as well as throwing the odd party.

Edinburgh is an amazing place to build a world class startup, and we can't wait to see what the new year brings!

All the best,

Team CodeBase
