Does an AI expert interest you in delving into a particular AI subject? Then you have come to the right place. Barclays Eagle Lab is hosting monthly keynotes on a range of topics to help improve your AI knowledge across different sectors and thinking.
Led by Canon Medical Research Europe, AI Frenzy Lunch session will interactively investigate three diverse applications of data science in healthcare and explore their associated challenge, with 4 keynote speakers: Keith Goatman, Maciej Pajak, Jeremy Voisey and Owen Anderson
Data-driven approaches have a huge potential to revolutionize healthcare provision and delivery. However, a number of challenges currently limit widespread adoption. This session will interactively investigate three diverse applications of data science in healthcare and explore their associated challenges. The three application areas are:
Machine understanding of hospital text records
Machine learning models for predicting patient outcomes
Deep neural networks for image analysis and interpretation.
The workshop will consist of a short introductory talk about each application, followed by a practical demonstration and interactive quiz on the data science challenges associated with each application.
This workshop will be of interest to anyone working in this area, as well as to someone just curious about the practical challenges faced when applying data-driven techniques to any sort of healthcare data.
Canon Medical Research Europe develop advanced software for the analysis of healthcare data. Based in Edinburgh the company includes software engineers, AI scientists, image analysis scientists, clinician specialists, researchers and verification engineers who together develop software for Canon Medical’s wide range of medical products. The company has a strong track record of innovation, backed up by a significant number of patents and patents pending.
Biographies
Keith, Maciej, Jeremy and Owen are scientists in Canon Medical Research Europe’s AI Research Group in Edinburgh. Their goal is to develop machine learning solutions that transform future healthcare.
Keith has over two decades’ experience working in medical imaging and healthcare, spanning the NHS, academia and industry. He leads one of the AI research teams at Canon Medical.
Maciej has a PhD in Informatics from The University of Edinburgh. His experience spans Computer Science, Psychology, and Bioinformatics.
Jeremy has a PhD in Chemistry from The University of Bath. Before moving into AI he was a maths teacher and vice principal at a not-for-profit private school in Cyprus for 18 years. Prior to his career change he studied data science, machine learning and AI using MOOCs.
Owen is a doctoral student at The University of Glasgow, with a background in photonics. He is based with the AI group at Canon, where his research is centred on deep learning algorithms for the analysis of medical images.
