Machine Learning Engineer

About CensorPic

CensorPic is an innovative tech-start up with the aim of reducing the volume of indecent images of children being produced and entering the public domain. Using intelligent technology, we are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to join as a key early member in the team. Curiosity is required, along with a creative mind to drive solutions for major technical challenges in this field.

Working alongside the founder and external teams, this is a great opportunity for a skilled engineer to take responsibility and build one of the world’s most accurate and computationally efficient algorithms.

The Role

The main objectives of the role are to design, train, validate and deploy a machine learning algorithm - from the initial data collection from data suppliers, through to meeting with our developers to implement the algorithms into our frameworks. Most of the work will be technical and internal to the company but is expected that you will be able to liaise with external organisations when needed, and aid in the classification of data whereby some of which will be of nude adults.

Understanding the nuances of image processing algorithms is a must, but we are very much open to new graduates and PhD students through to experienced hires.

  • Good knowledge of computer vision/image processing algorithms

  • Experience working with Tensorflow. Alternatively, experience working with other deep learning frameworks, such as PyTorch, Theano, Caffe and willingness to transition to Tensorflow

  • An understanding of the challenges and stages of software development

  • Good communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to a non-technical audience

  • Adaptable and open to changing direction based on evidence

  • Work efficiently – we want to fail fast and fail forward

  • Thrive in a close-nit team

  • Looking for a long-term position; from tech start-up through to a high growth company

  • Take ownership of your work

  • Excited to give feedback and opinions on the future direction of the company

This is a very early stage company, so it is paramount that we foster a great team environment from the very beginning. This means we have no strict 9-5 structure, but we are driven by outcomes and solid product development. Whilst we are based in Edinburgh, we are happy to accommodate remote working too for the right candidate.

  • Flexible work hours - you know when you work best

  • The best equipment and software to help you execute your day-to-day (PC or Mac, laptop, monitors and accessories)

  • Excellent holiday allowance
