Software Engineer (all levels)

About Float

Float is a growing, award-winning technical startup in the heart of Edinburgh’s high-tech entrepreneurial hub. We provide a web-based cash management and forecasting application for business intelligence, led by a small, passionate, and collaborative team.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is experienced in building web or mobile applications. We use Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript and we’re looking for people who are happy to work across the stack.

If you’re earlier in your career

You’ll be able to show us significant contributions to previous projects or open source work.  You’re a fast learner who’s looking for a place to build your skills.

If you’re already experienced

You’ll have an impressive track record of delivering projects from design to completion and be an engineer who commands respect amongst your peers.  You might have had experience leading teams and you’ll be used to mentoring other developers and advocating technology choices.

Above everything else, you must love problem solving, be curious, self teaching, and have the humility to listen to and learn from others. You’ll also need meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to communicate, plan and stay focused on the job at hand.

What we work with

  • Ruby on Rails

  • JavaScript ES2015

  • React and Redux

  • PostgreSQL

  • GraphQL

  • Sass

How we work

Our engineering team works closely with our design, marketing and customer support teams.  Generally we start from a lightweight spec or design prototype which is informed by talking to customers and identifying their needs.  We value writing clean, well tested code and code review everything.

Why us?

We’re a startup working on a product users love.  You’ll be working across our product and marketing platform and will make significant contributions from day one.  We’re committed to building a world class team and a great working environment. We think this is a fantastic opportunity to join an incredible team in its early stages of growth.  We promise it won’t be boring!
