Software Engineer: CUDA Development
Machines with Vision Ltd (MWV) is a dynamic engineering start-up using computer vision and AI for state-of-the-art localisation technology critically needed for future transportation systems. Early adopters of our technology include Deutsche Bahn, Network Rail and Jaguar Land Rover. The company, which is based in Edinburgh in the UK, has developed and proven the key technology over the last few years and is now developing its first commercial products.
As part of this, MWV have secured a Scottish Enterprise R&D SMART award. This full-time role will focus on using GPU's and CUDA to accelerate algorithms for motion estimation developed by the R&D team over an initial 1-year period. Ongoing further R&D will then follow from this.
Ideally this would suite an experienced, enthusiastic and pragmatic individual. There is still a predominate start-up culture in the company, so it would suit someone very much a self-starter and autonomous in their own right. There will be many open challenges and problems to overcome, but the potential opportunities and satisfaction are equally proportionate to these.
You will act in a crucial role on this project by understanding and translating our novel algorithms for vision based motion estimation into real-time working technology. You will report to the R&D team lead, and interact with other MWV product teams, as well as external hardware sub-contractors.
Evidence of GPGPU (preferrably CUDA) development of real-time systems.
Experience/interest in as many of these areas as possible: AI and machine learning, computer vision, robotics, control systems. Linux and/or MacOS development.
Ideally fluent in C and C++ and Python and with numerical and ML/CV libraries.
A B.Sc. (1st or 2:1), M.Sc. or higher in relevant numerate/computational discipline.
Agile team and/or team lead exposure (or at least good knowledge of what’s involved).
Any relevant background in automotive and especially in autonomy would be extremely relevant.
Understanding/knowledge of event-based/neuromorphic systems advantageous but not essential.
Grow with us as we scale and make a difference in what we do to the future of transportation.
Competitive industry salary and share options.
Flexible working hours.
Central Edinburgh location.
Employer pension scheme.

How to apply
Please send your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org with the Job Reference in the subject title. It's very helpful as well if you can be clear about your existing rights to work in the UK (i.e. visa status).
If we think there's a match we'll get right back to you to organise a time for an initial chat at our office. Following that we would then hope to interview as soon as possible. The interview will usually take the form of half-a-day and will involve you investigating in advance a challenge we set you (this should take no more than 2-4 hours of your time beforehand). We will also quiz you on what you've done and what you would like to be doing. You'll also get every chance to ask us questions and to meet the rest of the team.
Personal data held with regard to your application will be deleted after the recruitment process, in line with our data protection policy.
