Digital Rail and Autonomous Driving
Machines with Vision Ltd (MWV) is a dynamic engineering start-up using computer vision and AI for state-of-the-art localisation technology critically needed for future transportation systems. Early adopters of our technology include Deutsche Bahn, Network Rail and Jaguar Land Rover. The company, which is based in Edinburgh in the UK, has developed and proven the key technology over the last few years and is now developing its first commercial products.
MWV has recently secured a prestigious collaboration with JLR and Durham University funded by the UK’s Center for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, alongside an equally high profile RSSB funded collaboration with Network Rail and Icomera.
This full-time role is to help support and deliver the technical vision of these projects, over an initial 18-month period. Ongoing product development and project work will follow from this.
Ideally this would suite a fairly experienced (+3 years), enthusiastic and pragmatic individual. There is still a predominate start-up culture in the company, so it would suit someone very much a self-starter and autonomous in their own right. There will be many open challenges and problems to overcome providing a satisfying role with many opportunities.
You will act in an invaluable role on this project as a key developer helping deploy and advance our key localisation technology on rail and road. You will work directly under the guidance of the lead engineers of the two projects. You will have considerable interaction with other product teams and project partners.
Experience/interest in as many of these areas as possible: AI and machine learning, computer vision, robotics, mapping/GIS, control systems, event-based/neuromorphic systems.
Primarily Linux based development – and exposure of ROS.
Ideally fluent in C++ and Python and with numerical and ML/CV libraries.
GP/GPU CUDA would also be useful.
A B.Sc. (1st or 2:1), M.Sc. or higher in relevant numerate/computational discipline.
Agile team exposure (or at least good knowledge of what’s involved).
Any relevant industry background in automotive/rail/robotics and especially in autonomy would be extremely relevant.
Grow with us as we scale and make a difference in what we do to the future of mobility.
Competitive industry salary and share options.
Flexible working hours.
Central Edinburgh location.
Employer pension scheme.

How To Apply
Please send your CV to us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the Job Reference in the subject title. It's very helpful as well if you can be clear about your existing rights to work in the UK (i.e. visa status).
If we think there's a match we'll get right back to you to organise a time for an initial chat at our office. Following that we would then hope to interview as soon as possible. The interview will usually take the form of half-a-day and will involve you investigating in advance a challenge we set you (this should take no more than 2-4 hours of your time beforehand). We will also quiz you on what you've done and what you would like to be doing. You'll also get every chance to ask us questions and to meet the rest of the team.
Personal data held with regard to your application will be deleted after the recruitment process, in line with our data protection policy.
