Research Engineer



We are looking for a Research Engineer to join our growing Machine Learning team. You will be expected to research novel solutions to improve and develop Speech Graphics technology as well as implement and maintain those solutions for production. The work you do will have a visible impact in communication and entertainment industries.


About Speech Graphics

Speech Graphics is an award-winning startup providing pioneering facial animation technology for the games industry and beyond, with big name clients as Warner Brothers, Microsoft, Square Enix, and Def Jam Recordings. Based on over 20 years of R&D in speech technology, machine learning and procedural animation, our software produces high-quality facial animation from audio alone, with no need for motion capture. Our technology has been used for a variety of applications, including AAA game development (such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Gears of War 4, and Call of Duty WWII); language education (; live avatars for VR and mobile (Linden Lab’s Sansar); and AI assistants (TBA). Join our growing interdisciplinary team to work in an exciting and rewarding atmosphere. Our main office is at CodeBase, the tech centre by the castle in the heart of Edinburgh.



  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field

  • Machine learning background

  • Experience with neural networks and deep learning

  • Excellent programming skills

  • Ability to work independently


    Other preferred skills and experience

    • Experience with a deep learning toolbox, especially Torch and PyTorch

    • Experience working in a speech technology area such as speech recognition

    • Experience with speech software libraries such as Kaldi

    • Previous professional
