Digital Skills 4 Girls [Edinburgh]

  • CodeBase Edinburgh 37a Castle Terrace Edinburgh, Scotland, EH1 2EL United Kingdom (map)

This month we'll design and programme a robotic face that will respond to your own facial expressions and other data sets with Civic Digits.

About this event

Digital Skills 4 Girls is a monthly workshop for girls aged 10+ who want to learn new digital skills or develop existing skills. From coding and gaming to digital design and video, DS4G is a friendly and supportive environment to learn new skills and meet new friends.

This month we'll design and programme a robotic face that will respond to your own facial expressions and other data sets with Civic Digits.

Do you want to build your own motorised emoji...? Using a new tool called “VizBlocks” designed by Creative Informatics at Edinburgh University you will design and programme a robotic face that will respond to your own facial expressions and other data sets. VizBlocks have circles of LEDs to make eyes and servo motors to make eyebrows and mouths. These can be programmed to move, change colour, wiggle and flash in response to different data inputs. You will create fictional characters and explore the possibilities of using data as a creative material to bring those characters to robotic life.
