Zanana Social for Creatives of Colour

Details

Calling all Creatives of Colour! Zanana Social returns with an insightful panel talk and friendly networking event.

Speakers include Roxy Legane from Kids of Colour (Manchester) and Gerald Richards from Super Power Agency (Edinburgh). Hosted by Veronique AA Lapeyre, yer gal behind the Zanana Project.

This is a closed event specifically for those who identify as Black, Asian and/or People of Colour (POC) and those who are active in the Scottish creative industries. It is important for People of Colour to have their own safe space for real and honest conversations.

Zanana Socials bring Creatives of Colour together across all disciplines to share learnings, facilitate conversations and collectively problem solve. A lively panel talk is followed by an audience Q+A, with time for meeting and chatting woven throughout.

Don't worry this is a casual, friendly event. Whether you come with a friend or by yourself, you will be welcome.

Speakers

Roxy Legane is the founder of Manchester based project Kids of Colour: a platform for young people of colour to explore race, identity and culture and challenge the everyday and institutionalised racism that shapes their lives. Having worked with young people in the city for five years, she started the project in February 2018 to support young people to raise awareness of the reality of racism that is often ignored, from inside education to over-policing.

Alongside the project, Roxy is a steering group member of Northern Police Monitoring Project, works for Right to Remain and has recently completed her master’s in criminology at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research focused on the impact of schools-based police officers on young people, communities and education in Manchester, as calls for their employment grow louder.

Gerald Richards is the CEO of the Super Power Agency a youth writing and publishing nonprofit. He is also the founder at B & G, a new consulting firm based in London and Edinburgh helping organisations and individuals flourish through creativity, coaching, organisational development and storytelling. From 2010 – 2017, Gerald was the CEO of 826 National, where he led the strategic direction, administration and building of resources for the network of affiliate organisations located in eight US cities, as well the establishment of affiliates in additional US and international cities.

With more than twenty-five years of management and development experience at local and national nonprofit organisations, Gerald is a respected trainer and sought after speaker on topics of youth development, writing, creativity, and education access. Originally from Harlem, NYC, Gerald has a BA in Film Studies from Wesleyan University and an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
